These photos are from an ongoing personal project called “Americas,” which is inspired by a number of books, from Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States to Charles C. Mann’s New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus and Nathan Philbrick’s Mayflower. The writings of Michael Pollan were the catalyst for me to visualize this project partly through food.
I also I think of these three image in terms of specific styles. The photo on the left is Pop. The picture in the middle is documentary. And the image on the right is a still life based on medieval times, when only the rich could afford or have the time to fight for good food. Not a lot has changed since then.
